New Mural Downtown by Marlena Livingston

A new mural has been completed Downtown! Thanks to artist Marlena Livingston for sharing some information about the piece.

“I painted this mural for Inhora Hospice. They are a small, no-cost hospice center open to anyone in need. I wanted the imagery to reflect the different and beautiful stages of life, represented as the sunrise moving into midday, fading into evening, and finally the moon rising above the Sandia Mountains. I chose a variety of local plants and animals that I thought would bring beauty to the wall and comfort to those looking at it. Inhora asked me to include the Virgin of Guadalupe and the text that reflects the compassionate and faith-based mission of their work. This was my first solo mural, and I am looking to paint more!”

Marlena Livingston is an artist and maker working primarily with wool and found materials. She is also a painter, illustrator, and muralist, and takes much of her inspiration from wildlife and the natural world, especially the high desert landscape she calls home. Marlena holds a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of New Mexico and has worked as an art teacher and school librarian for the public schools intermittently since 2015. In 2018, she graduated with an MA in Sequential Design from the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom. Marlena lives in Albuquerque with her two dogs, Ralphie and Peanut.

The mural is located on Tijeras Ave. between Castle Coffee (8th St.) and Cafe Lush (7th St.).
