Downtown Albuquerque is home to a new theater company! Welcome, Albuquerque Nuevo Teatro (ANT), to the neighborhood. A new tenant at the Sanitary Tortilla Factory, now Rail Yards Market building, ANT came together at the beginning of 2026. ANT focuses on contemporary pieces, activism, accessibility, and paid opportunities. Thanks to Samuel Guajardo, one of the founders, for sitting down with us and providing insight into what is coming up for ANT and ways we can support this theater and performance space.
Samuel, and fellow ANT founder, Dilara Tutar, and their creative partners are all professionally trained musical theater performers who have experience in New York City and beyond. They both wanted to bring more professional, paid opportunities for fellow performers right here in Albuquerque. At the beginning of the year, ANT started to organize a small concert series of performances that launched at JUNO Brewery. The singers group was composed of individuals with professional musical theatre and opera experience, internationally recognized talents, as well as up-and-comers. As the group grew and new ideas started to emerge, it became apparent that this idea had some legs, and they started keeping an eye out for a physical location to call their own.
The universe aligned when the Rail Yards Market started advertising a rentable space at the Sanitary Tortilla Factory building on 2nd Street this past spring. ANT was happy with the rent and location and aligned with the mission of what the Rail Yards Market is working to realize in the space. Adding to an already happening block, ANT is looking forward to connecting with more partners in the downtown area.
So far, the space has hosted a Pride Karaoke Competition, Pride Divas Concert, Latinas Foreva Night, and Lady Gaga Night. They’re currently offering free summer classes that focus on voice, dance, and acting techniques. Coming up in October, ANT will be offering a full professional production of American Psycho the Musical, which recently had a critically acclaimed run in London. Also, look for more classes this fall and more concert series performances.
The ANT space is available to rent! ANT is excited to partner and meet new neighbors and is renting out their space to other like-minded performers and creatives. Reach out if you’re looking for a spot to practice, perform, record, or any other ideas Albuquerque creatives might have. Now is the time to join and support this new creative space downtown.
