Anthropopulus Design + Planning Moves Downtown

Anthropop Team

Anthropopulus Design + Planning recently moved their offices to the west end of the Downtown ABQ MainStreet District. Thanks to Amy and Holly for the interview and for sending us a photo of the whole team!

Tell us more about Anthropopulus.

We are people people. We’re also plant people and animal people. Anthropopulus is a landscape architecture and planning studio that works on public and private projects alongside community members, engineers, architects, nonprofit organizations, contractors, and many others. Amy Bell and Will Moses founded Anthropopulus in 2024 after previously leading Groundwork Studio, and together they bring 36 years of experience in the field.

What brought you to the Downtown neighborhood?

As people who design and plan urban spaces, Downtown was an obvious contender for our office. Our team has worked on a variety of projects in and around Downtown over the years, which has helped build our connection to the neighborhood. We were drawn to its walkability, creative culture, and proximity to local government and civic institutions. Most importantly, we wanted to set up our office somewhere we could feel like a neighbor and not just a tenant.

Are there any projects you’re working on that you can share with readers?

We’re currently working on several projects in and around Downtown, including the Downtown Wayfinding Plan. We also recently wrapped up the Wells Park expansion, which transformed a previously vacant lot into a neighborhood park with new recreation, gathering, and community spaces.

Is there anything coming up you want readers to know about?

We work on design and planning projects throughout Albuquerque and across New Mexico. Right now, we are developing the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), which helps inventory the state’s outdoor recreation resources and suggests funding priorities. The draft plan will publish in the next few months, and we will need feedback from New Mexicans. Learn more and keep up with the project here: SCORP.

In Albuquerque, we are working on two projects that are soliciting community feedback. The Old Town Wayfinding survey will help us understand how residents and visitors experience Old Town and identify any hurdles to navigating the area. A community survey (coming soon) for the North Valley Area Plan will gather broad input to make decisions that reflect all community members who live, work, and play in the North Valley.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Although landscape architecture and planning are specialized services, we want Anthropopulus to be an active part of the RANA neighborhood and the larger Downtown community. We’re looking forward to staying connected with what’s happening around Downtown and participating in events like ABQ Artwalk and other neighborhood activities.
