artspace: affordable housing for creatives (2023)
In partnership with the City’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA), DowntownACD is exploring an Artspace project in Downtown Albuquerque.
Artspace’s mission is to create, foster, and preserve affordable and sustainable space for artists and arts organizations. Started in 1979 Artspace has grown to be both consultant and developer with 53 properties that they own and operate across the country. To date none of their projects have closed.
Funding for Artspace projects are sourced through public funding sources including those available for the creation of affordable housing, economic development, historic preservation, and cultural facility development. Private sector funding includes conventional bank financing as well as individual and community philanthropic support.
In the spring of 2023, DowntownACD facilitated a feasibility study and in- person visit with Artspace to Downtown Albuquerque. The visit consisted of a variety of community focus groups, public meeting at Flamenco Works and visits of potential location sites. Read the completed feasibility study below.
